The RG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0 was the first build through the hangar, and the first kit in over fifteen years after a childhood of straight builds. It was the first proper pass at the full workflow: nub sanding, Mr. Surfacer 1000 primer, airbrushed color, panel lining, and a flat coat. The armor went down in the anime scheme (Mr. Color Gundam Color UG19 blue and UG20 red with GX1 Cool White), the inner frame in Super Iron over a gloss black base, and the thruster bells in Metal Ice Silver. Markings are aftermarket waterslide decals rather than the kit's stickers. The results set a high bar for a first build back; it still edges out the build that followed it.
The finishing order here became the house rule: gloss coat, then panel line, then flat coat. Panel liner bleeds into flat or porous paint and is harder to clean up, so the gloss goes down first; it gets skipped only when the paint itself already dries smooth, like most metallics. The before/after above shows the distance from the out-of-box kit; the full paint recipe is mapped zone by zone below.
